First-party

webpassio_visit_session temporarily stores a unique identifier for authenticated Webpass.io subscribers.

section-<section-name>-visits stores how often you visit the various section index pages. This data is used to determine which promotions you see around the website. This data is never transmitted back to the server and all processing happens on your device.

commenter-author, commenter-email, and commenter-webpage stores the name, email address, and otionally website address that was submitted along with a comment. This data is only sent back to the server when you submit another comment; at which time you can also change the data before submission.

commenter-hash is derived from commenter-author and commenter-email (see above) and stores a unique hash. The hash is used to highlight your own name and comments throughout the website – for example, on individual articles and on community related pages such as the Top Commenters list. The hash can also be recreated on the server and is included on every page with activity that you’ve submitted to the website.

read-articles stores the articles you’ve read, and is used to mark them as such on index pages, search results, and the like for your own reference. When read-articles exceeds 500 articles, all articles read more than 10 months ago are deleted. Deletion happens when you visit any page where this data is displayed. This data is never transmitted back to the server and all processing happens on your device.

last-post-cleaning stores the last time the list of read articles was automatically pruned to delete old articles. This data is never transmitted back to the server and all processing happens on your device.

_pk_ses temporarily stores information such as how long many minutes you’ve spent on the website in the current browsing session.

_pk_id stores a device-unique identifier used for analytics. See the Privacy Policy for details.

_pk_uid stores a person-unique identifier used for analytics derived from the commenter-hash, if available. See the Privacy Policy for details.

_pk_cvar stores information about what marketing campaign lead you to visit this website, if any. This information is used to track the success of this website’s promotional efforts.

_pk_ref stores information about what website first referred you to this website, if any. This data is used for tracking website traffic trends over time.

piwik_ignore stores your opt-out preference for analytics through Piwik. (Currently unavailable.)

Third-party

google_analytics_client_id stores a unique identifier that is used to track you through the Google Analytics program. This identifier is stored persistently.
